Overnight, a bunch of impossibly-rich people jumped on a flight into space as part of Virgin’s Galactic Space Flight Launch. To mark the occasion, Khalid performed at the launch site.
Performing in the New Mexico desert, Khalid debuted his new single ‘New Normal’. It’s set for release Friday, 21st July but you can enjoy an early listen, thanks to Richard Branson and co.
‘New Normal’ opens the set.
“This next song right here, this is the fun one,” says Khalid, introducing ‘Better’.
He closes the set out with 2019 hit ‘Talk’.
As the MC of the Unity 22 livestream launch event, Stephen Colbert introduces Khalid’s performance.
Virgin Group founder, Richard Branson was on the flight, which managed a brief journey into space, alongside five other people.
Ahead of his performance, Khalid spoke with Rolling Stone about his affinity with space.
“Around this time last year, I was super fascinated and gravitated toward space,” he told the publication.
“I was watching this comet by the name of Neowise last year, and space travel is something that I’ve always been interested in as well.
“And I’ve been going through the motions of understanding this new, postmodern future that’s coming together, especially when it comes down to technology — it’s something that really excites me.”
