Musician’s tributes have been pouring in from all corners of the internet to remember The Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts, who died on Tuesday at 80.

According to a spokesperson, he died peacefully in a London hospital. The cause of death has not yet been made public, however Watts’ ill health has been known publicly since at least the beginning of August when the band announced he would be missing their upcoming tour because of his condition.

His bandmates Keith Richards, Mick Jagger and Ronnie Wood paid tribute to the late rocker via Twitter.

Jagger posted a touching photo of an older Watts behind the drumkit, mid laugh.

Richards also posted a photo, but offering a more symbolic tribute. His post features a drumkit with a “closed for business” sign hanging from it.

Wood posted a recent photo of him and Watts with the caption “I love you my fellow Gemini ~ I will dearly miss you ~ you are the best.”

Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John and Ringo Starr are among generations of musicians who have also offered their respects.

“So sad to hear about Charlie Watts, the Stones drummer,” said McCartney in a video he posted to Twitter.

“He was a lovely guy. I knew he was ill, but I didn’t know he was this ill. Lots of love to his family, his wife and kids, and his extended family, and condolences to the Stones.”

“This will be a huge blow to them because Charlie was a rock, and a fantastic drummer. Steady as a rock. Anyway, so love you Charlie. I’ve always loved you.”

A very sad day. Charlie Watts was the ultimate drummer. The most stylish of men, and such brilliant company. My deepest condolences to Shirley, Seraphina and Charlotte. And of course, The Rolling Stones.

The coolest drummer with the best sound, a member-of-the-band player rather than a look-at-me soloist, Charlie Watts was a constant inspiration – as a musician and as a man. Vale Charlie. People everywhere will mourn your loss today, and dance to your grooves forever. Rob / M.O pic.twitter.com/LLuljL2JLh

I don’t advertise myself to be their biggest fan but I do love the Stones. Been driving all day. Didn’t find out about Charlie Watts passing until late. Always annoyed me when people would mock how he played the hats. U wish u could swing like that. Dude personified cool. pic.twitter.com/opkmgE98XC
