Lady Deep invited DJ Carlito (Carlos Vigelandzoon) for an hour session on this weeks Groovers After Work Radioshow.

A small introduction:

DJ Carlito is one of the best kept secrets from the Amsterdam underground dance music scene today. With a remarkable list of clubs, countries, events, parties and festivals both national and international he shares his dj skills for over 30 years now.

A true player with an allround vision, Carlito moved to Amsterdam at the age of 17 where his talent got picked up various dj’s and club owners and soon got his first residency at Club Havana. DJ Carlito (then DJ Carlos) was the youngest DJ ever to infiltrate the Amsterdam club scene.

During the 1990’s Carlito had residencies or played frequently in the most famous clubs in Amsterdam like Club Havana, Richter, RoXY, IT, Paradiso, Sinners in Heaven, Melkweg, Odeon, Naar Boven, Dansen bij Jansen and The Escape to name a few.

In 2000, he got busy with a new sound called UK Garage, which later became 2 Step. DJ Carlito became a key player and one of the main resident dj’s of the (Melkweg, Amsterdam)organizing parties and playing together with Afrika Bambaataa, MJ Cole, Zed Bias, Artful Dodger, Craig David, Stanton Warriors, The Streets Dee Kline, Femme Fatale and many more.

In 2002 Carlito teamed up with his brother, DJ Urvinson (DJ, remixer, songwriter & producer) to launch a fresh and vibrant concept named: Brothers in Harmony which includes live musicians playing over their DJ set. Since then, they built a reputation for their tight, funky sets and no- nonsense musical choices. Over the last 30 years of his career Carlito played alongside DJs like Armand van Helden, Derek Carter, Ricky Montenari, Alton Miller, AtJazz, Osunlade, Karizma, Raphael Morais, Ian Pooley to
name a few.

In 2017 he became the new music curator of the Art’Otel and 5&33 in Amsterdam where he was already a resident dj since 2013. At the moment you can find him spinning on a weekly or monthly bases in the A’DAM Tower, Supperclub Cruise, The Hoxton Amsterdam, The Tropen Amsterdam, Twenty Seven, “W” Amsterdam, The Harbour Club and in the international club and the hotel scenary all over the world.

DJ Carlito is currently at work on his own dual label called Software for Soul Recordings and Hardware for Soul Recordings.
The vision of Software for Soul Recordings is an allround open-minded community for upcoming artists as well as established musicians, dj’s, re-mixers, producers and artists collaborations and contributions on what they love and believe in most of their
own music.
